- Vote for an amendment to change the Trust Deed for compliance with the Māori Fisheries Amendment Act 2024 and updated Māori Fisheries Act 2004.
Under the Māori Fisheries Amendment Act 2024, certain aspects of the Māori Fisheries Act 2004 have been updated, requiring all mandated iwi organisations (MIOs), including Ngāti Tuwharetoa Charitable Trust, to make certain specified updates to their governance documentation by July 2026. Such changes have primarily been introduced to reduce costs, improve efficiency, move towards greater rangatiratanga, and increase MIO ability to provide settlement asset benefits to uri. Accordingly, the required changes have been made to the Ngāti Tuwharetoa Charitable Trust’s Trust Deed (Current Deed) in the manner set out in the draft amended and restated deed of trust (the Amended and Restated Deed), as further explained at Appendix 1 to this letter. This Amended and Restated Deed will apply on and from 26 July 2026, in which the relevant provisions of the Māori Fisheries Amendment Act 2024 come into force. - General business.
